On January 19, the City Club of Central Oregon is proud to host Challenges in Youth Sports: Local Hurdles. In today’s youth sports environment, very few of our children have full access to the benefits of playing sports. High costs, early specialization, injuries, burnout, lack of transportation and shortage of space, coaches and officials are just some of the current concerns and constraints for successful programs. Our forum will explore who is benefiting from local youth sports and how we can improve outcomes for children and teenagers in our community.

The forum will be moderated by former Olympian, Jay Bowerman. The panelists helping lead the discussion include:

Rich Ekman, Bend Parks and Recreation Sports Coordinator
Shawna Hicks, Madras Aquatics Center and Recreation District
Marcus LeGrand, Bend La Pine School Board, The Fathers’ Group
Dave Turnball, Summit Track and Field Coach

City Club is also seeking responses from student athletes or former student athletes on their experiences visit the forum page at cityclubco.org.
