As a leader in environmental education, engagement, and action, we at The Environmental Center see sustainability not just as an outcome to strive for, but also an active process we take part in every day. We know the decisions we make as individuals all come together to balance the three core pillars of sustainability: the environment, social equity, and economic vitality.

But we aren’t the only ones who contribute to a sustainable community in Central Oregon; that’s why we are always looking for ways to highlight and support those who are leading the way for a sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future. But we need your input.

This year, we will be hosting our seventh Sustainability Awards event to commend the determined and persistent change makers in our local communities who are essential to achieving a sustainable future. The event will take place at Open Space Event Studios on November 4, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and will feature a special youth panel on “The Future of Sustainability.”

Right now we are encouraging individuals, businesses, organizations, and other community-led projects and programs in Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties to apply. We’ve also opened up a nomination process for those of you who want to help encourage the organizers, business owners, and leaders you admire to apply as well.

We’d love for you to take part in our celebration by nominating someone from your community, or, better yet, applying yourself.

Application and nomination forms and information can be found on our website. Nominations will be open until 11:59 p.m. on August 29, 2021, and applications must be completed no later than 11:59 p.m. on September 19, 2021.

Building a sustainable community could not happen if it wasn’t for the commitment from individuals and organizations like you who care about the future of our planet and people, and know that local change makes a world of difference.
