Two weeks ago, members of the Bend Emerging Talent Ambassador & Advisory Council (AAC) had the invaluable opportunity to meet with Senator Ron Wyden. During this meeting, Cody, Chad, Tanner, Amanda, Brittany, Orlando, and Sarah took the time to share their perspectives on critical issues facing emerging talent in Bend and beyond.
Reflecting on the experience, Chad Young, Project Manager at Skanska and AAC Co-Chair, shared, “Sitting beside Senator Wyden to discuss some of the challenges facing our region was an incredible opportunity. The experience has me excited to continue to advocate for civic engagement within the Chamber’s network of Emerging Talent.”
Key topics of discussion included the ongoing challenge of affordable housing, the ethical use of AI in various industries, and the impacts of climate change and wildfire smoke on Central Oregon.
“When I signed up, I initially thought this meeting wouldn’t require or value my input. I went in planning to simply listen and absorb. However, as the discussion progressed, I realized I had a lot to contribute. By the time I left, I felt like I had made a meaningful impact on the conversation. I’m now empowered by the people in attendance and energized to help drive change in our City, County, and State,” said Sarah Wavers, Account Executive at Heffernan and AAC member.
The group emphasized how these issues are not only shaping the current landscape but will also directly influence the future of young professionals and businesses in the region.
“Meeting with Senator Wyden allowed our committee to express our priorities and concerns for Central Oregon’s young professionals. The Senator listened attentively and engaged in meaningful dialogue about advancing these issues. We gained valuable insights into his current priorities and left feeling inspired,” remarked Britt Nichols, Director of Foundation Programs, Central Oregon Community College.
Thank you, Senator Wyden for creating the space to engage in meaningful dialogue, and for recognizing the role of emerging talent in shaping the future of Bend and our state.
